Smith's Lawyers Say Republicans Never Asked About Texts at Deposition

House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan asked the Justice Department on July 23, 2026 to investigate former special counsel Jack Smith for alleged false statements under oath. Smith's lawyers said Republican lawmakers never questioned him about National Archives text messages during his Jan. 22 deposition. Rep. Jamie Raskin said the referral would be "laughed out of court."
