Smith's Lawyers Say He Couldn't Have Lied — Republicans Never Asked the Question

House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan urged the Justice Department on July 23, 2026 to investigate former special counsel Jack Smith for alleged false statements under oath. Smith's lawyers said Republican lawmakers never asked him about National Archives text messages during his Jan. 22 deposition. Rep. Jamie Raskin said the referral would be "laughed out of court."
