U.S. Resumes Deportations to Haiti as Gangs Hold Most of the Capital

The U.S. deported over 100 people to Haiti in early September 2026 while gangs control an estimated 70% of Port-au-Prince. The UN reports nearly 200,000 people were forcibly returned through August. The flights follow termination of Temporary Protected Status, a program that had shielded roughly 350,000 Haitians from removal. DHS titled its August release "HOME SWEET HAITI."
