
DOJ Uses Property-Destruction Law to prosecute Activist for Wiping Phone
The DOJ is prosecuting Atlanta activist Sam Tunick under a statute meant for physical property destruction for entering a passcode that erased his GrapheneOS phone during a January 2025 airport interrogation linked to Cop City activism. Experts at the EFF say they've never seen this law applied to digital-device wiping. A suppression motion is pending.
