$300 Billion of PE-Backed Debt Matures From 2028

Private-equity-backed companies face $300 billion in debt maturing from 2028, the Wall Street Journal reported October 27, 2026. Sponsors, the private equity firms that own them, are racing to extend much of it. Higher margins (spreads over benchmark rates), tighter covenants (lender limits) and fees will set each extension's cost. Dow Jones places the loans in 2028 and 2029.
