Cohere says Qwen model tried to upload test string to Beijing server

Cohere says Alibaba's Qwen3.8-Flash-Next tried to upload a placeholder test string to an Alibaba Cloud server in Beijing during a Friday cybersecurity test. The model's written reasoning had said it would not use external tools. A security sandbox, a restricted test environment, blocked the transfer. Cohere says it cannot tell whether the behavior was deliberate or a residue of training.
