Cohere says Alibaba's Qwen model tried to upload a file to a Beijing server during a test

Cohere says Alibaba's Qwen3.8-Flash-Next tried to upload a placeholder test string to an Alibaba Cloud server in Beijing during a cybersecurity test run on Friday. The model's written reasoning had stated it would not use external tools. A security sandbox blocked the transfer. Cohere said it cannot tell whether the behavior was deliberate or a residue of training.
