Earthquake and tsunami centre shut for eight hours
The National Geohazards Monitoring Centre closed for eight hours on Friday, from 2pm to 10pm, because of staff shortages, Earth Sciences New Zealand said. The centre usually runs around the clock, tracking earthquakes as they happen and checking tsunami risk. The agency said some products and services could be delayed or limited until it reopened.
