Quake and tsunami monitoring centre closed for eight hours

The National Geohazards Monitoring Centre closed for eight hours on Friday, from 2pm to 10pm, due to staff shortages, Earth Sciences New Zealand confirmed. The centre, which normally operates 24/7, monitors live earthquake data and assesses tsunami hazards. The agency said some products and services could be delayed or limited until it reopened.
