Okinawa Assembly Urges Review of U.S. Forces Agreement After Naha Killing

Okinawa’s assembly voted Oct. 9, 2026, to urge a review of the 1960 Status of Forces Agreement, the rules for U.S. troops in Japan, after the alleged robbery-killing of Anna Yagi, 39, in Naha. It will send the request to the Japanese government and the U.S. Embassy. Okinawa hosts most of the 54,000 U.S. troops in Japan.
