Okinawa Wants New Rules for U.S. Soldiers After Naha Killing

Okinawa’s local lawmakers voted Oct. 9, 2026, to ask for a review of a 1960 agreement, like a rulebook, setting rules for U.S. soldiers in Japan, after the alleged robbery and killing of Anna Yagi, 39, in Naha. They will send the appeal to Japan’s government and the U.S. Embassy. Okinawa houses most of 54,000 U.S. troops in Japan.
