Okinawa Assembly Calls for Review of U.S. Forces Pact After Naha Killing

On Oct. 9, 2026, Okinawa's prefectural assembly adopted a resolution urging review of the 1960 Japan-U.S. Status of Forces Agreement after the alleged robbery-killing of Anna Yagi, 39, in Naha. It will send the call to the U.S. Embassy and Japanese government. Okinawa hosts most of 54,000 U.S. troops in Japan.
