France Pauses Stun Grenades at Student Protests
France suspended use of stun grenades — loud devices meant to disperse crowds — for student protests on Oct. 7. The decision came after Oct. 6 high-school protests drew 266,000 to 450,000 people and 488 arrests over teacher shortages, crumbling buildings and overcrowding. Whether softer policing eases future school blockades remains to be seen.
