Isaias Set to Strengthen Before Gulf Landfall

Hurricane Isaias packed winds of nearly 130 km/h (80 mph) Thursday morning, Oct. 8. Forecasters expect landfall in the Florida Panhandle, southern Alabama and southern Mississippi late Friday or early Saturday. NHC Director Michael Brennan said it could reach near-major strength, meaning stronger winds plus life-threatening storm surge — ocean water pushed ashore.
