UK First: Edinburgh Transplants Frozen Testicular Tissue

NHS Lothian surgeons in Edinburgh transplanted frozen testicular tissue back into a 19-year-old student in August, the first in the UK and second reported worldwide. The tissue, which produces sperm, was frozen in 2023 before chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant for a serious blood disorder left him with no sperm. Doctors will know within months if production resumes.
