Edinburgh surgeons perform UK's first frozen testicular tissue transplant

NHS Lothian surgeons in Edinburgh transplanted frozen testicular tissue back into a 19-year-old student in August, the first such operation in the UK and second reported worldwide. The tissue was frozen in 2023 before chemotherapy and bone marrow transplant for a serious blood disorder left him with no sperm. Doctors will know within months if sperm production resumes.
