Greens would end bottom trawling in Hauraki Gulf

The Greens would end bottom trawling in the Hauraki Gulf – Tīkapa Moana if they are in a coalition government after the election. Co-leader Chlöe Swarbrick announced the policy in St Mary’s Bay on 5 October 2026, RNZ reported. Bottom trawling drags nets along the seabed. Fishing company Sealord has opposed the plan, Undercurrent News reported.
