Greens would stop seabed fishing in Hauraki Gulf
The Greens say they would stop a type of fishing in the Hauraki Gulf – Tīkapa Moana if they share power in government after the election. Co-leader Chlöe Swarbrick made the promise in St Mary’s Bay on 5 October 2026, RNZ reported. Bottom trawling drags nets across the sea floor, like bulldozing. Sealord is against the idea, Undercurrent News reported.
