France to Close 400-500 High Schools Amid Protests Over Conditions
France will fully or partly close 400-500 high schools Monday for safety, Education Minister Edouard Geffray said Oct. 4. The closures follow weeks of protests since Sept. 17 near Paris over staffing shortages, crowded classes and poor buildings. Organizers plan large protests Tuesday, so it is unclear if the closures will ease tensions.
