France Closing Hundreds of High Schools as Students Protest

France will fully or partly close 400-500 high schools Monday for safety, Education Minister Edouard Geffray said Oct. 4. It follows weeks of protests since Sept. 17 near Paris over too few teachers, packed classes and run-down buildings. Protest organizers have called for large rallies Tuesday, so it is unclear if closures will calm tensions.
