Tennessee execution fails, Christa Pike remains on ventilator
Tennessee’s Sept. 30 execution of Christa Pike failed after she survived two doses of pentobarbital, the sedative used in lethal injection. She was transferred from prison to a hospital, where she remains unconscious on a ventilator, a machine that helps her breathe. Gov. Bill Lee paused executions through year-end pending an independent review.
