Supreme Court opens term with test of state lawsuits on fossil fuels

The Supreme Court will start its 2026-2027 term Oct. 5 with a case on whether federal law blocks state and local lawsuits against energy companies over claims the firms misled the public about fossil fuels' harms, NPR and SCOTUSblog listings said.
