Christa Pike Survives Lethal Injection in Tennessee, First in History
Christa Pike, 50, survived two doses of lethal drugs at her Sept. 30 execution in Nashville, Tennessee. The Death Penalty Information Center said she is the first person in capital-punishment (death-sentence) history to survive injection. Convicted of the 1995 murder of Colleen Slemmer, Pike said she felt burning, lost consciousness but kept breathing. She is hospitalized in critical condition.
