FBI Reports Record 9.3% Drop in U.S. Violent Crime

Violent crime in the U.S. fell 9.3% from 2024 to 2025, the FBI estimated — the steepest yearly drop it has recorded. Killings, legally termed murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, fell 18.1%, bringing the homicide rate to 4.1 per 100,000 people, the lowest since 1956.
