
Bedford crash: train sped up after running red signal
The Corby to Luton Airport Express ran past a red stop signal near Elstow and sped up to 76mph, investigators say. Emergency braking cut speed to 49mph before it hit a stationary Nottingham-London train on 19 June 2026. Driver Shaun Burton died and 160 people were injured, the Rail Accident Investigation Branch reported.
