Why two trains crashed near Bedford

An Express train from Corby to Luton Airport ran a red stop light near Elstow and sped to 76mph, investigators say. The driver slammed on the brakes, slowing to 49mph before hitting a waiting Nottingham to London train on 19 June 2026. Driver Shaun Burton died and 160 people were hurt, the Rail Accident Investigation Branch reported.
