U.S. Ends Automatic Arms-Sale Ban on Syria
The U.S. removed Syria from its ITAR denial list — the register that blocks weapons exports — on September 30, 2026. American defense goods and services can now be considered case by case, rather than refused outright. The decision follows Bashar al-Assad’s ouster in December 2024 and Syria’s removal in August 2026 from the terrorism-sponsor list. Seven countries remain banned.
