Mahmood hints at rethink on 10-year settlement wait

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said she had heard concerns settlement reforms were unfair. She told Labour conference the Government would be fair to legal migrants and British citizens. The plan would extend indefinite leave to remain, permanent permission to live in the UK, from five to 10 years. Home Office sources said no final decision had been taken.
