U.S. Sends Over 100 People Back to Haiti as Gangs Rule the Capital

The U.S. sent over 100 people back to Haiti in early September 2026, even as gangs control about 70% of the capital, Port-au-Prince. The UN says nearly 200,000 people were forced back through August. A program called Temporary Protected Status, which had kept 350,000 Haitians from being sent home, was ended. DHS called its August release "HOME SWEET HAITI."
