U.S. Deports Over 100 to Haiti as Gangs Control 70% of Capital

The U.S. deported over 100 people to Haiti in early September 2026 while gangs control an estimated 70% of Port-au-Prince. The UN reports nearly 200,000 people were forcibly returned to Haiti through August 2026. DHS titled its August deportation release "HOME SWEET HAITI." The flights follow termination of Temporary Protected Status, which had protected roughly 350,000 Haitians from removal.
