Josie and the Pussycats vocalist made under $1,500, fights for back pay

Kay Hanley, who recorded lead vocals for the Josie and the Pussycats soundtrack, made less than $1,500 for the work, she told Vulture in June 2026. She is seeking back pay, residuals and SAG health insurance after producers allegedly failed to submit her union paperwork. The 2001 film grossed $14.8 million on release.
