May el-Toukhy makes Venice debut with 'Woman Unknown,' one of two women in Golden Lion race

Danish filmmaker May el-Toukhy makes her Venice Film Festival debut with "Woman Unknown," screening 6 September 2026 in the Sala Grande. She is one of only two female directors competing for the Golden Lion in the Venezia 83 Competition. The post-WWII drama, a Denmark-Sweden-Latvia co-production produced by Mikael Rieks for Nordisk Film, is el-Toukhy's third feature.
