US Replaces Broad Import Tax With New Duties Tied to Forced Labor

On July 24, 2026, US trade official Jamieson Greer announced import taxes of 10%–12.5% on about 60 countries — covering 99% of US imports — for failing to block goods made with forced labor. The taxes replace a 10% worldwide charge from February. Brazil called its 12.5% rate "completely arbitrary and unjustified."
