Scottish Labour leader Sarwar to join UK government

Anas Sarwar is leaving his job as leader of Scottish Labour to become a UK trade minister under Prime Minister Andy Burnham, the government said on 22 July 2026. He will enter the House of Lords to do the job. Scottish Labour must now choose a new leader for the Scottish Parliament.
