Russian Warship Fires Guns Near British Waters

On 20 July 2026, a Russian warship fired its guns for 30 minutes in the English Channel, 40 miles south of Plymouth. It suddenly announced the drill and told a British navy ship following it to back away. This happened the same day Andy Burnham became prime minister. Russian warships have been in the Channel since April, after firing warning shots near a British yacht in June.
