Tesla Starts Making Optimus Robots in Fremont

Tesla said on October 21, 2026, that it has started building its Optimus robot, a human-shaped machine, at its Fremont, California factory, which previously built electric cars. Its quarterly investor letter calls these the first robots built to proper production standards. The announcement came alongside a 43% drop in net income, to $787 million.
