Europe's gas price has more than doubled this year

Europe's benchmark gas price — the region's going rate — is up more than 150% in 2026 as winter nears, when stored gas is used like savings, Reuters reported Oct. 12. It stood at 84.56 euros per megawatt-hour, a standard chunk of energy, on Oct. 13, Trading Economics showed. If tight supplies last, heating and electricity bills could rise.
