U.S. markets watchdog filed far fewer penalty cases in 2025
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the federal agency that watches markets for farm goods, oil and financial bets, filed nearly 80% fewer penalty cases in 2025 than its average over the prior 10 years, its annual reports show. Its 2025 report listed 13 cases total — seven handled inside the agency and six filed in court to stop violations.
