Why Japan Searched Its Four Biggest Beer Companies

Japan's Fair Trade Commission, the market watchdog, searched offices of Asahi, Kirin, Suntory Beer and Sapporo on suspicion they secretly agreed on prices for beer and other drinks. The four make over 90% of Japan's beer. Official Hiroo Iwanari confirmed the case; the brewers say they will cooperate. Such secret price deals are illegal under Japan's fair-competition law.
