Japan Raids Four Beer Giants Over Suspected Price Collusion
Japan's Fair Trade Commission searched Asahi, Kirin, Suntory Beer and Sapporo offices over suspected price collusion for beer and other beverages. The four control over 90% of domestic beer. Commission official Hiroo Iwanari confirmed the investigation; the brewers said they will cooperate. Collusion would violate Japan's anti-monopoly law, which bans competitors fixing prices.
