Raccoon With Rabies Found Near Los Angeles, First Since 1973
Los Angeles County found a raccoon with rabies, the first since 1973. Health officials said Oct. 5 the animal was sick but not aggressive at a backyard work site in Westlake Village. The exact source is unknown, but likely a bat passed the virus on, like one person catching a cold from another. Lab tests can take weeks.
