L.A. County Investigates First Rabid Raccoon Since 1973
Los Angeles County is investigating its first rabid raccoon since 1973. Health officials said Oct. 5 the raccoon was found ill but not aggressive at a backyard work site in Westlake Village. The rabies variant — meaning the strain's source animal — is unknown but likely came from a bat. Lab testing to confirm it can take weeks.
