California Will Let You Plug Balcony Solar Panels Into an Outlet From 2027

California will let residents plug balcony solar panels of up to 1,200 watts directly into a regular outlet starting Jan. 1, 2027. Gov. Gavin Newsom signed the Plug and Play Solar Act on Sept. 30. Written by Sen. Scott Wiener, it requires UL safety testing or equivalent. California is the tenth state to allow them.
