Tesla adds emergency drive-off while plugged in

Tesla has added an emergency drive-away mode in the US through a software update. Shifting into drive while plugged in shows a confirmation alert, then allows departure with the cable attached. The charging handle snaps off and falls to the ground, damaging car and handle. Normally the plug locks, preventing driving, until released.
