Algeria plans death penalty for setting forest fires

Algeria's lower house, the first lawmakers, approved a bill to execute people guilty of setting forests on fire. It goes to the Council of the Nation, the upper house, for review. Algeria has not executed anyone since 1993, a break under pressure. It came after northeastern wildfires that killed at least 12 and President Tebboune's September demand for harsher punishment.
