Kyiv Independent Says It Must Report Hard Truths

Olga Rudenko, editor of the Kyiv Independent, told The Guardian in an Oct. 1, 2026 interview that her paper cannot hide Russian wins on the battlefield or ignore corruption inside Ukraine just to please readers. It is not propaganda — meaning one-sided government messaging — and is not linked to the government or working as its publicity arm, she said.
