Kyiv Independent Defends Reporting Russian Gains and Corruption

Kyiv Independent editor Olga Rudenko told The Guardian in an Oct. 1, 2026 interview that the outlet cannot downplay Russian battlefield gains or soften coverage of Ukrainian corruption to please readers. The paper is not Ukrainian propaganda, is not tied to the government, and is not Ukraine's PR service, she said.
