Government borrowing cost tops 5.2%
CNBC reported the U.S. government's 10-year borrowing cost — the 10-year Treasury yield — topped 5.2% on September 28, 2026, rising almost 3 hundredths of a percent to 5.209%. Think of it as the master price for loans. Because mortgages and business loans follow it, I think borrowing stays expensive if this holds.
