Carney announces $1.2-billion for ocean protection, first part of strategy

Prime Minister Mark Carney announced $1.2-billion in new money to protect Canada's oceans in North Vancouver on Sept. 29. Fisheries and Oceans Canada confirmed the funding is new. Ottawa says it is the first pillar — or building block — of a national ocean strategy. Work on securing waters and growing the ocean economy will follow.
