UK Leader Wants Free Care Service for England

Prime Minister Andy Burnham proposed an NHS-style national care service for England — free care run by the state. In a BBC interview with Laura Kuenssberg, 27 September 2026, he called help for older and disabled people 'threadbare' and 'as unfair as American healthcare' over 'huge cost' to families. He warned failing care will in the end break the NHS.
